Frequently Asked Questions

Below you'll find a list of questions I frequently encounter, some of which were questions I asked before I ever saw a chiropractor myself.

If your question is more specific or doesn't seem to be answered, feel free to click the button below and send me an email or reach out via Instagram @dr.doucette.chiro.

What types of treatment does a chiropractor perform?

The most common method of treatment associated with chiropractic care is the chiropractic manipulation or adjustment, better known as Spinal Manipulative Therapy. This is type of manual therapy performed by many healthcare providers (upon receiving the appropriate training). It is a targeted approach to improving range of motion by applying a high speed, low force thrust to a joint or series of joints, further decreasing pain or stiffness, Additionally, chiropractors may employ gentle mobilizations of joints to slowly introduce and improve range of motion, soft tissue therapy to improve muscle and tissue pain as well as exercise therapy to help encourage and maintain ranges of motion and strength.

Don’t see the treatment method of your choice listed? Feel free to reach out to see if it can be provided as a component of your care.

Is chiropractic treatment right for me?

Have you ever asked “should I see a chiropractor?” There are a number of factors that will determine the answer to this.

Before ever beginning a course of treatment, Dr. Doucette will perform a thorough health history and a focused physical examination related to your complaint. Following completion of your exam, a treatment plan will be developed based on diagnosis, patient goals, preferences and comfort level as well as clinical expertise and best practices.

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor? Does insurance cover chiropractic?

You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor. Most private insurance companies cover chiropractic care but please consult the online portal of your insurance provider to find out level of coverage.

How long will I see a chiropractor for?

This question is different for every person. Some patients may attend a short course of treatment, address their primary concern, and seek care only when necessary. Others may follow a similar pathway but may seek care more regularly, utilizing chiropractic care as a form of maintenance to support the demands of their lifestyle.

Does chiropractic treatment usually require x-rays?

While most treatment does not require x-ray, your chiropractor may choose to review previous imaging (X-ray, CT Scan, MRI) if completed in the province of New Brunswick or may refer you to your primary health care provider for necessary imaging if indicated.
